Please excuse the lack of 100% achievements. I thought I could handle an FPS, but then I took insane for a spin. Hard Reset is like an unrelenting Olympic gymnastic coach who never gives you a moment's break. Are you sure you are out of the blast radius? Нет . You miscalculated your shield recharge time? Nein. You thought a few heavy headshots would kill a charging monstrosity in time? 不. Did you think you found good cover from? No. In the first level of the game I felt like I deserved a parade at every check point. But soon enough, I realized I was just being lazy. I loved Doom, Quake, and Unreal Tournament growing up. I had babied my FPS muscles and was suffering from atrophy in the L33t skillz area. With that in mind, I stepped up my game and started being more careful, more precise. I still died a lot, but now I was learning. I still felt supreme satisfaction, but I also gained a newfound respect in the balance. The game was trying to train me, and get me used to playing a shooter where I don't just respawn 2 seconds away, automatically regenarate all my health, or kill enemies in a few hits. All that being said, Hard Reset is not perfect. The story could not really hold my attention, though the art was kind of nice. The load times can be a longer than comfortable. I despise the autosave system: I could have a perfect run all the way up to one point, only to be killed out of nowhere and have to try to recover my balance in the next load. I also feel like I should point out that it is not the hardest game ever made. I make it sound extremely tough, but I do not consider myself really great at shooters. Challenge is very subjective: I found Hotline MIami to be moderately diffiuclt on my old trackpad, but I cannot play War of the Roses or Megaman to save my life.Hard Reset feels extremely refreshing and satisfying, while familiar at the same time. It has been bundled and been on sale frequently, so this is a solid, engaging experience worth checking out.. Beautiful graphics • Wonderful atmosphere of cyberpunk• Great soundtrackOh, I love this game :>. Enemies are bullet sponges, mobility and gameplay is dull and repetitive. It feels like playing a much older game than it is.. I paid $1.50 for this game and glad I did; If it were full price I no doubt would ask for a refund. I like this game, but be aware ye buyer what ye are getting into! I strongely suggest watching some vids of gameplay to see if this twitch-happy mess suits your playstyle.. Nice Game, though flawed. For example, the "secrets" most of the time aren't secrets at all but rather .... "oh, theres a staicase that leads both up-and downstairs. I'm supposed to get upstairs. Let's get downstairs... oh, there's a secret." Also, prepare for some pain dodging enemy fire, since every freakin' ranged weapon in this game seems to have AoE abilities, so dodging/hiding behind cover is nearly impossible - and most enemies are melee anyway. And while the Idea of only having 2 weapons, but both with 5 different mods and each mod having two modes is an interesting thought, in reality it makes things unnecessary complicated. I can still recommend it, as the low-priced game that it is, but if you are willing to pay a bit more to get a better game, get Shadow Warrior (2013) instead. Also by Flying Wild Hog, but superior in every regard. However, I can't deny that, as flawed as Hard Reset is, it is still a nice FPS to kill a few hours with. Especially if you happen to be a fan of cyberpunk-style. So, for the 80% Sale we're having right now: It is a damned steal. Go get it. Despite what I pointed out, it is fun as well - though I can't easily describe WHY. On a percentage scale, I'd give Hard Reset a 7/10.. Indie games are often maligned (often incorrectly) by certain people who claim that they are done cheaply, cobbled-together or just somehow "lesser" games. Whilst there might be some games you could reasonably say this of, Hard Reset is a shining example of how this statement isn't always true. The graphic fidelity shown here is stunning for such a small developer, and the world created is very believable and detailed. As soon as you jump in, you definitely get a Bladerunner kind of vibe going on, and it serves to create an excellent atmosphere.I personally found the story to be a bit generic and therefore lacking (although I do confess in not exactly being a story person for games), but this doesn't really matter as the game does so well in it's execution. From the very start, the game sets a good pace, along with a fair challenge that never feels cheap or unreasonable. From the very first battle, I found the lovely destructive explosions of the robots expiring along with the smacks and clanks of hitting the machinery incredibly satisfying. The only real downside I had with the game is in it's length - it's a few short hours, and does indeed feel like it's only getting going when it ends. I understand this may be mended somewhat with the inclusion of the DLC, but I haven't played it myself so can't comment. So, on balance I'd say for it's full price of £9.99, you might be better served by looking elsewhere. However, if it comes up on offer for anything less, then it is a worthy purchase.I think it may end up surprising you!
